Fall 2010 will mark the second year for Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, an arts integrated K-8 magnet school in SW Denver. This former middle school will grow to become a K-12 school over the next few years. KCAA serves students as a Denver Public Schools’ magnet with regional priorities, 75% of students coming from the areas feeding Kennedy HS, Lincoln HS and Grant Middle School, and 25% of students from the rest of the district and out of district. Students apply and are selected at elementary by lottery and at middle and high school by interview to discern passion for the arts. No auditions or portfolios are required. KCAA opened in 2009 with 650 students, and that is the expected enrollment for next year, before expanding to high school in the fall of 2011. We are offering tours for interested parents every Friday at 10 a.m.. Middle school applications are due Dec. 11 and elementary applications on Jan. 29. You can see our SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST in the ADMISSIONS section of this web page School hours are 8:30 to 3:45. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and is FREE for all students. K-3 have lunch at 11:20, 6-7 have lunch at 11:45, 8th has lunch at 12:10m and 4-5 eat at 12:30.
 KCAA will provide a learning environment based on documented research that active learning, experiential investigation and integrated arts are vital for the development of higher level thinking and of the enthusiastic engagement inherent in lifelong learning.
Inspired to achieve through imaginative explorations, students at KCAA can expect the following unique opportunities: - Full day Reggio Emilia kindergarten classes, two classes each of first through fifth grades, and 140 students per grade in sixth, seventh and eighth grades
